Samira's story [Arabic]
The Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action were launched in Geneva, Switzerland on 29, October 2012. ITFL was asked to create 'Samira's story' to accompany the launch.
Animation by long-time partners Nancy and Lee Ellis was combined with a voiceover by our very own Joe Herrmann and a soundtrack taken from our 2009 recordings of Océan Clef de Fa in Kinshasa, DR Congo.
This long-awaited set of standards was compiled by the 22 organizations and agencies which comprise the Child Protection Working Group (CPWG). The CPWG is a global level forum for coordination on child protection in humanitarian settings that brings together NGOs, UN agencies, academics and others under the shared objective of ensuring more predictable, accountable and effective child protection responses in emergencies.
These standards strive to strengthen coordination, improve the quality of protection programmes, increase accountability and enable better communication on issues involving child protection. Over the course of the next few years, field staff will receive training on these new standards, and organizations will develop strategies to translate them into to live-saving assistance on the ground.
